La Carn (The Flesh)

12 August, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Flesh, written and Performed by Lluis Garau

We localized this history in a basement, where our protagonist has lived for a few of years. He convinced his parents that to do his work, he needed a space apart and larger than his small bedroom. The 19 year old boy was able to deceive the whole family by telling them that he made his living playing as a Gamer. His parents, who are the owners of a butcher shop, have never questioned him and have accepted that his son live virtually in isolation. In reality, our protagonist leads a completely different life, and its only source of revenue is through sexting practices with customers in exchange for money. His pornographic recordings that he uploads into OnlyFans, as well as the sex video calls he makes with his clients. He sells his own flesh as his parents do at the butcher shop.

La Carn is a dance theatre piece that was born from the need to represent the body both in the physical scene and online. The protagonist travels poetically his own body, where he reveals his wounds and the abstract form of his madness. The piece has two audiences, the face-to-face that comes from curiosity about the play and the Chatroulette audience, who is there as a voyeur. It shows the generational gap between parents and children in the technology and how young people use these resources sometimes against ourselves. La Carn is a gateway to a young man’s intimacy, which puts a price on his own body. BIO Lluís Garau

Lluis Garau, Sa Torre (Mallorca) 1997, graduated from the Barcelona Theater Institute in Gesture Interpretation. He has trained in contemporary dance, performance and interpretation between Mallorca and Barcelona. One of the last collaborations has been in the Max Awards with the piece Stella that took place in Menorca with choreographer Mar AguilĂł. He has collaborated with artists such as Pau AulĂ, Joan Porcel, Guillem JimĂ©nez and is currently presenting his first personal piece LA CARN. Which has been presented at the Seville Film Festival, the Malaga Theater Festival, LesGaiCineMad, the Ibiza Film Festival, the Casal Solleric de Palma and the International Dublin Gay Theater Festival. A character, a director, and a technician, its creator Lluis Garau conveys to us the loneliness and distance of today’s sex (live show, remote sex), opening the door to the intimacy of a young man who puts a price on his body. A work with traces of Trap, Mantegna, the cinema of Ulrich Seidl (Im Keller) and the naked conversation of Jefta van Dinther’s choreographic work, Dark Field, has the duplicity of an accomplice audience: one in the theater, another from casa. He is an emerging artist who is trying to make his voice known to the world.
