Indecent Theologies 1: Guided Reading

We propose reading “Indecent Theology” by Marcella Althaus-Reid together to explore the tension and possibilities posed by the terms “decent” and “indecent.” We invite you to discover a theology from the margins, to reclaim the term “queer” in its original meaning of something rare, strange, suspicious, and dangerous, as well as its relationship with God, Jesus, and Mary. Indecent theologians are those who, through their sexual practices, transform oppressive structures.

Over the course of two weeks, participants will have the opportunity to send their questions and share their experiences with the facilitator through a Telegram channel. Everything will culminate in a Zoom session where we can discuss, explore, and take pride in the indecent. Three days before this session, a guide outlining the topics to be discussed will be sent.

This workshop will be led by David Carrillo-Rangel, a researcher at the University of Bergen. His work is based on an ongoing dialogue between the past and the present, seeking to reorient historical discourses from a queer perspective, and creating spaces of convergence between academic research, activism, and pedagogy.
