PIG Empowerment

What does it mean to be a PIG? Is there PIG pride? Is auto-porn fiction a path to PIG empowerment? We invite you to the premiere of OINK!, a documentary composed of interviews recorded in Los Angeles and Berlin between 2019 and 2020. This experimental documentary offers a portrait of gay men who, in various ways, identify with the “pig” sexual imagery through their experiences and conceptions of identity, masculinity, community, permanence, pleasure, and sexual intimacy as shaped and framed by 21st-century media. For the event’s introduction, we will have a special collaboration via video from Jaime, aka Nando Rey, creator of auto-porn fiction. After the documentary, there will be a conversation about identities, visibility, and PIG activism, with audience participation encouraged.

Participants: David Carrillo-Rangel, activist from Procés Cuir, and researcher at the University of Bergen, NO – Rubén Martin, volunteer from STOP – João Florêncio, producer of Oink! and researcher at the University of Exeter.

OINK! is a scientific documentary produced by Dr. João Florêncio, as part of his AHRC Leadership Fellows project “Masculinities and the Ethics of Porosity in ‘Post-AIDS’ Gay Porn.”
