Safe Spaces and Queer Urbanisms
16 November, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
In this event, we will use the pandemic experience as a starting point to examine concepts such as urban safety and public health, which have often been employed to suppress sexual dissidence, prostitution, and protests. We will revisit the HIV crisis and nightlife as spaces of freedom while addressing their invisibility. Additionally, we will reconsider the notions of “safe spaces” and public places from a “queer” perspective, especially considering the rise in aggressions.
The format will feature an introduction to hygieneism by Ashley “Ivy” Gorriti, a talk on dissidence within the club scene with Temporary Pleasure, and a panel discussion involving Aparecida Arguello, Roger Serret i Ricou, and Jorge S. Kilzi.
